In this BLOG post I will teach you how to make puffy paint.

Painting is such a fun and relaxing activity for kids (and adults) and it can be differentiated in so many unique ways. Puffy paint takes the joy of creating to the next level! It’s colorful. It’s textured. It’s unlike any craft experience you’ve had before!

The best part…you only need THREE ingredients to make it and you likely have them at home already!

Are you looking for other shaving cream activities?

Check these out:

Can I make puffy paint in advance?

Puffy paint works best the day that you make it. I would not make it too far in advance.

How long does it stay puffy for?

It typically stays puffy and textured for 1-3 days and then it starts to deflate a bit. It still leave a a beautiful art creation on the paper but it won’t be as puffy as day one.

What kind of paper should I use?

You can use any construction paper you have. It works best with a thicker paper or card-stock but I often use regular construction paper because that is what I have on hand.

Materials:

  • Shaving cream

  • White school glue

  • Individual bowls or muffin tin

  • Food coloring

  • Paintbrush

  • Construction paper

Step 1: Mix equal parts shaving cream and white glue in a bowl. Example: ¼ cup white glue and ¼ cup shaving cream.

Step 2: Squirt in 5-7 drops of food coloring. Mix well.

Step 3: Repeat Steps 1-2 if you want other colors.

Step 4: Dip the paintbrush in and paint on the construction paper. You can draw an ice cream outline with Sharpie or free paint.

Tips:

  • If the mixture feels too thick, add a bit more shaving cream.

  • Put a tray or covering down to protect surfaces.

  • Rinse paintbrushes thoroughly after use to remove any extra glue.
