Halloween is the perfect time to stir up some spooky fun and what better way to do that than with a bubbling cauldron of sparkly, taste-safe potion play? This sensory-rich activity combines the magic of edible luster dust with creepy-crawly spider vibes to create a hands-on experience that’s equal parts eerie and enchanting. Introducing: Spider Soup!


What Is Potion Play?

Potion play is a type of sensory activity where kids mix, pour, and stir colorful ingredients to create imaginative “potions.” It’s a fantastic way to encourage creativity, fine motor skills, and scientific thinking, all while having a blast.


Why Use Edible Luster Dust?

Edible luster dust adds a mesmerizing shimmer to your potions, making them look like they’re straight out of a wizard’s spellbook. Since it’s taste-safe, it’s perfect for younger kids who might be tempted to sneak a sip. The sparkle factor also makes it irresistible for Halloween-themed concoctions!

 How to Make Sparkly Spider Soup


Ingredients:

  • Edible luster dust (our current favorite linked HERE)

  • Water

  • Plastic spiders or spider rings

  • Bowls, ladles, pipettes, and jars for mixing


Step 1: Fill a bowl or cauldron with water.


Step 2: Add a pinch of edible luster dust and stir; watch the magic swirl!


Step 3: Drop in your plastic spiders and call it “Spider Soup.”


Step 4: Let kids mix, pour, and play with their spooky brew using ladles and pipettes.
